Novel Operating Mode of a Fluidic Oscillator

Abstract Fluidic oscillators show promise for use in aerodynamic flow control applications, with many studies reporting oscillation frequencies the 1–10 kHz range. Spyropoulos, “A Sonic Oscillator,” introduced a “sonic” oscillator whose frequency depends on inlet rate. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate existence second mode operation (mode II) such an oscillator, separate physical mechanism traditional, rate-dependent I). Mode II shown be back-pressure-driven that largely independent rate once instigated. This explained by stationary wave formed along outlet paths, and occurs when conditions degree back pressure weakening Coandă attachment strength are met. For fixed device geometry, reduce minimum threshold so combination high constant could make attractive solution industrial context where minimizing size often critical.
